Girl, 10, Critically Injured After Accident Near Franklin Elementary School
OAKLAND (October 20, 2017) – An alleged hit-and-run accident critically injured a girl Friday afternoon on East 15th Street, according to East Bay Times.
The collision took place at about 1:25 p.m. in the 800 block of East 15th Street near Franklin Elementary School.
As per the article, police said a 10-year-old girl was out of the school since it was a minimum day when she was struck by a red Toyota Camry which was headed east at the time.
The young victim was believed to have been dragged for a few feet before she was left unconscious in the street. She suffered multiple fractures and head injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Franklin Elementary School fourth-grader was listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the female driver involved did not stop to render aid and fled. The woman ended up in the middle of the street after she slammed into a parked car in the 400 block of Foothill Boulevard.
The suspect then fled on foot but was later found and arrested near 9th Avenue and International Boulevard. Her name was not released.
The investigation is ongoing.
We offer our sincerest thoughts and prayers to the gravely injured innocent girl and her family and friends during such a difficult time. We wish her a swift and full recovery.
Personal Injury Lawyer
Drivers are obliged to remain at the scene after being involved in a traffic accident. In this case, it is evident that the woman will be held fully responsible for causing the incident that led to the critical injuries of the girl. Regardless of their reasons, leaving the area following a crash is a serious crime and punishable by law, especially if the collision severely injured another individual. We are hoping that authorities will continue to gather evidence and information and justice will then be served.
The family of the young victim will have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party who has apparently neglected the safety of others on the road. The claim will include a compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages and pain and suffering.
