Wrong-way Driver Crash on I-580 Freeway in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (August 30, 2022) — A wrong-way driver crashed in Oakland on the Interstate 580 Freeway on Tuesday morning near Keller Avenue.
The high-speed collision occurred about 11:52 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the I-580, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Someone called 911 to report a driver in a black Audi SUV traveling at speeds up to 100 mph and weaving in and out of traffic lanes. The motorist was reportedly traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 580 Freeway. Eventually, the vehicle crashed, but it’s unknown if other motorists are involved.
The Oakland Police Department responded to the scene to help those involved, but there are no further details.
Investigators are working on the case to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
