Tow Truck Driver Killed in Freeway Crash by Suspected DUI Driver
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 1, 2021) –Obinna Ugorji, 40, of Sacramento, has been identified as the tow truck driver who died Saturday night after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The Sacramento County Sheriff Coroner identified Obinna Ugorji as the pedestrian killed in the crash at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, March 25th at Seamas Avenue.
Larry Godbold Arrested on DUI, Manslaughter Charges
Meanwhile, police arrested Larry Godbold, 46, of Sacramento, on suspicion of drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver was booked at Sacramento County Main Jail.
Goldberg’s mini-van struck the victim who was standing on the driver’s side of the tow truck on the right shoulder. The vehicle struck both the victim and the tow truck during the crash.
The CHP reports Obinna Ugorji wound up in the northbound lanes of I-5 Freeway. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police added that Godbold remained at the scene, however, he would not provide law enforcement with a statement. Furthermore, police recognized signs of intoxication and promptly arrested Godbold.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
