Motorcyclist Suffers Burn Injuries
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 22, 2024) — Two men and a woman were injured in a motorcycle versus car crash Tuesday in Ocean Beach at Voltaire Street and Bacon Street.
The two-vehicle traffic accident occurred at around 4:35 p.m. on May 21st, according to a report by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
A 42-year-old man is being treated for life-threatening burn injuries at the hospital after his BMW motorcycle reportedly rear-ended a vehicle at the intersection, the SDUT said.
The rider suffered the burn injuries when his bike caught fire in the collision. Also, his passenger was thrown off the bike and seriously injured, the San Diego Police Department said.
The traffic accident occurred as the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Voltaire Street. The bike crashed into the back of a stopped Honda CRV at Bacon Street, authorities said.
The motorcycle caught fire and its operator was severely burned. Meanwhile, a 38-year-old woman who was riding on the bike with him was ejected into the roadway. The woman was also severely injured with an open pelvic fracture and a large laceration to her scalp.
Finally, the 49-year-old man driving the Honda told paramedics he had back pain after the crash, police said.
Police are working on the case to determine fault for the crash and whether drugs and or alcohol were factors.
