At about 6:00 a.m., a solo-car crashed along the freeway between Mission Bay Drive and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
As per the report, a gray four-dour passenger vehicle slammed through a fence along the right should of the freeway, hit a tree, then rolled over for several yards before coming to a rest.
During the mayhem, a male transient was on the north side of the fence. The man was struck by the out-of-control vehicle. Medics responded shortly after the crash and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
Police officers also arrived at the scene and located the involved vehicle deserted. Witnesses claimed three people were spotted fleeing on foot after the accident. Later, San Diego police detained three people south of the freeway, but authorities could not say if they were involved in the collision.
Police also mentioned the identity of the fatality will be released once next of kin notification is accomplished.
Further investigation is underway.
