1 Killed, 2 Injured in Street-Racing Collision on Mesa Drive Friday
Oceanside, CA (September 10, 2021) – One person died, and two others suffered injuries following a car crash that occurred on Mesa Drive Friday evening.
According to the San Diego-Union Tribune, an alleged street race rook place in the streets of Oceanside. Preliminary investigation revealed a Dodge Charger was seen speeding on Mesa Drive at about 7:40 p.m. Officials said the Dodge appeared to be racing another driver in a silver vehicle.
When the two vehicles approached the area near Martin Luther King Jr. Park, the driver of the Charger lost control and spun out of control. Officials said the Charger ended up hitting a Mini Cooper traveling in the opposite direction.
First responders found the Charger smashed against a light pole. Paramedics at the scene sadly pronounced the driver of the Charger dead. Pending confirmation and notification of next of kin, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.
Authorities added two occupants from the Mini Cooper sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. A helicopter was called to the crash site to transport the two patients to a hospital.

Meanwhile, officers confirmed the other driver allegedly involved in the drag race fled the scene. No immediate information was available on the suspect.
