Octavio Islas, 24, ID’d as Suspect in Long Beach Fatal Long Beach Hit-and-Run Crash
LONG BEACH, CA (March 9, 2022) – Authorities identified Octavio Islas as the suspect in the fatal Long Beach hit-and-run crash.
Police said the 24-year-old man crashed into an apartment building and killed two people inside last week on Tuesday night.
The incident began when Octavio Montano Islas was driving a 2014 Ram 1500 pickup truck north on Rose Avenue in Long Beach. He then went off the road and plowed into the apartment complex.
Police added that in the process, his car struck two of the occupants inside the building. Paramedics pronounced one of the victims, 42-year-old Jose Palacios Gonzalez, dead at the scene.
Father and Daughter Killed in Crash
Medical personnel rushed the daughter of the man, a 3-year-old girl, to a hospital, where she died. The Press Telegram and CBS Los Angeles wrote that the accident occurred on March 1 at about 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Octavio Islas abandoned his truck and fled on foot. They described him as 5’8 tall man and weighs 160 lbs, with black hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his right forearm.
Witnesses believed that the suspect was under the influence at the time. Officers issued an arrest warrant for Octavio Islas for two counts of felony manslaughter, felony DUI and felony hit-and-run.
