Octavio Rodriguez ID’d as Motorcyclist Killed on 60 Freeway
SOUTH EL MONTE, California (Oct. 30, 2017) — Octavio Rodriguez, 39, of La Puente was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a stalled Prius on the 60 Pomona Freeway, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
The rider was driving a 2013 Ducati Monster when it struck the compact car stalled in the No. 1 lane of the westbound 60 Freeway.
The crash took place about 4:35 a.m. on Sunday morning at Santa Anita Boulevard. The rider’s motorcycle ended up underneath the disabled Prius.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash. Witnesses may contact the CHP at (323) 980-0799.
Traffic Accident Investigation
Police believe the driver of the Prius, Kevin Cheung, 18, of Alhambra was driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and the investigation is ongoing. The police report does not state what type of drugs were allegedly involved. Police will continue to go over the facts of this case and piece together all the evidence. There are many unanswered questions including whether the drivers were traveling within speed limits and or if mechanical problems contributed to this collision.
“Drugged driving is an epidemic on our Southern California roads,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Motorists under the influence of drugs cannot operate their vehicles safely and as in this case may cause injury or death due to their actions.”
