FAIR OAKS, Sacramento (October 22, 2016) – A Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy sustained injuries after he tried to stop a vehicle from speeding off during a traffic stop at Winding Oak and Long Canyon drives, according to an article by Sacbee.
At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, the deputy saw a man running at the intersection and chased by a Mercedes occupied by two female parties. The deputy then pulled over the Mercedes, and called out the running man to also stop.
All parties obliged and yielded at the side of the road.
Later, when the deputy made contact, the driver put the car in drive and sped off while the deputy was still holding on to the Mercedes.
The incident resulted in the deputy suffering in injuries to his upper body. The victim, described as a 13-year veteran of the department assigned to the field services division, was hospitalized and is expected to recover from his injuries.
As per the article, the license of the 26-year-old Mercedes driver was later found at the scene; leading to an arrest that same day.
Further investigation is underway.
