Officer Injured in Escondido Crash on Interstate 15

Car Hits Deputy Directing Traffic Near Deer Springs Road

Escondido, CA (April 23, 2023) – An Escondido police officer suffered after being struck by a vehicle on the Interstate 15 Freeway Sunday morning, April 23.

According to ABC10 News, an off-duty deputy was on his way to work driving on the freeway. In the area near Deer Springs Road, the officer encountered slow moving traffic because of a stalled vehicle on the shoulder. Our sources indicated the off-duty deputy got out of his vehicle to help direct traffic.

Authorities said a passing red Ford Focus attempted to get around the slow traffic and drove on the shoulder. The article published online mentioned the Ford hit the officer, and knocked him onto the hood.

The force from the impact resulted in minor injuries to the deputy. Responding paramedics rendered aid to the injured officer. However, it remained unclear if medical personnel transported the victim to a hospital for further treatment.

Police officer later arrived at the scene and detained the driver of the Ford Focus.

At this time, detectives continue to investigate the precise cause of the collision that happened on the Interstate 15 Freeway in Escondido.
