Man, 59, Struck and Killed in Oildale Car Accident
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2024) — A 59-year-old pedestrian died Tuesday night in a car accident after he was struck by a pickup on Olive Drive, west of Airport Drive in Oildale.
The California Highway Patrol reported the crash around 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5th, between the man and a pickup truck.
Investigators determined an eastbound 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup was traveling along Olive Drive in the number two lane when the driver struck the man just west of Airport Drive.
The 59-year-old man was walking southbound across Olive Drive and was outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit. The driver told authorities the man walked directly into the path of the Toyota pickup and he was unable to avoid the collision.
The crash scene has no streetlights and the area is dark, making it difficult to see pedestrians in the area, the CHP said.
Paramedics responded to the scene, but they were unable to save the man.
The Oildale pedestrian accident on Olive Drive remains under investigation.
