Moss Landing Woman Killed in Wrong-way Crash on Highway 1 in Watsonville
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (February 23, 2021) – Olivia Tiscareno, 45, of Moss Landing, died Sunday morning in a collision with a wrong-way driver on Highway 1 in Watsonville.
The crash also left a 46-year-old Moss Landing man seriously injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened about 12:17 a.m., on February 21st, just south of Airport Boulevard.
Olivia Tiscareno Killed in Crash with Suspected Wrong Way Driver
Johanna Mayapuga, 22, of Santa Cruz, was headed northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 1. His 2015 Nissan crashed into a northbound 2002 BMW driven by the Moss Landing man, police said. Olivia Tiscareno, who was a passenger in the BMW, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the BMW was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
The Nissan came to rest blocking the number 3 lane on the southbound side of the highway. Meanwhile, the BMW wound up on the west shoulder with its back resting on the guardrail/
Furthermore, officials investigating the crash arrested Johanna Mayapuga. The driver was also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, the CHP said.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. It’s unknown at this time what led to the collision.
