DUI Driver in Sonora Crash ID’d as Omari Chenualt, 24
SONORA, CA (March 31, 2021) – Authorities detained Omari Chenualt after a DUI crash along Tuolumne Road in Sonora.
Officers determined that the 24-year-old Long Barn was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened on March 29 when Omari Chenualt was driving a 1990 Toyota pickup at a high rate of speed east on Tuolumne Road in Sonora.
At the same time, a 2009 Dodge SUV was stopped in an attempt to turn left into a private driveway. The California Highway Patrol said Omari Chenualt failed to stop and then hit the rear of the Dodge.
2 Injured in Car Collision on Tuolumne Road
The driver of the SUV, 54-year-old Sonora resident Derek Ellis, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The accident took place just west of Soulsbyville Road.
CHP affirmed that Omari Chenualt and his passenger, 23-year-old Twain Harte resident Victor Bassett, also suffered minor wounds upon impact.
Paramedics took both Ellis and Chenualt to a local hospital for further aid. My Mother Lode reported that medical personnel treated Bassett at the crash site.
Meanwhile, officers soon arrested and took Chenualt into custody for felony DUI with a bail set at $35,000. The Sonora collision is still under investigation.
