The accident took place at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the area of Palm Avenue and Saturn Boulevard.
As per the article, San Diego police said a 27-year-old woman was driving a Nissan Xterra SUV east on Palm Avenue when she ran the red light at Saturn Boulevard.
She then slammed into the back of a Nissan Frontier pickup which had just turned east from northbound Saturn. The Xterra swerved off the road, through some weeds and a chain link fence.
The force of the collision crushed the back of the pickup and the front of the SUV.
Police affirmed that the pickup driver was transported to a trauma center with a broken neck. The name of the victim was not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the woman was arrested ad jailed on a felony charge of driving under the influence. She was unharmed.
