ONTARIO, CA (February 23, 2023) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and injured another on the 60 Freeway near Grove Avenue in Ontario.
According to the ABC 7 News and KTLA News, the tragic accident took place early Tuesday. Officers reported the wreck on February 21 shortly after 12 a.m.
The incident began when for an unknown reason, a 2011 Honda Civic used the exit ramp at Grove Avenue to try to enter the westbound 60 Freeway in Ontario.
In the process, the Honda faced oncoming traffic and drove the wrong way. The California Highway Patrol said the Civic then attempted to turn right to go back to the correct direction.
2 Cars Collide
A 2014 Toyota Camry approached and collided with the Honda. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the 78-year-old San Bernardino man driving the Civic dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 56-year-old Chino woman, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel provided treatment to the patient at the site.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officers forced the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway to shut down near Grove for hours following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Ontario crash is still under investigation.
