Deadly Crash Involving Motorcyclist and Bicyclist

ORANGE, Calif. (August 18, 2023) — At least one person died in a motorcycle versus bicycle accident last night on the Interstate 5 Freeway at the transition to the Garden Grove 22 Freeway in Orange.

The collision occurred on the northbound I-5 at the transition to the westbound SR-22 around 8:07 p.m. on August 17th, according to the California Highway Patrol report.

A man called 911 to report a motorcyclist struck his girlfriend who was riding a bicycle on the transition road and both the motorcyclist and his girlfriend were unconscious.

Paramedics responded to the scene and located two people down in the roadway blocking the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of the freeway transition road. Meanwhile, the Orange County Sheriff Coroner responded to handle at least one person who died in the crash.

A tow truck removed the damaged motorcycle from the roadway.

Investigators are piecing together what happened to determine fault for the motorcycle accident on the 5 Freeway at the 22 Freeway.
