1 Killed, 1 Injured Highway 99 Crash in Bakersfield
DELANO, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2018) — Orlando Tapia, 19, of Delano, died and another man was critically injured Sunday night when they were both struck by a vehicle on Highway 99 at Woollomes Avenue.
The collision took place about 11 p.m. last night. The victims were involved in a collision between a Nissan, a Volvo and a Mazda. The man driving the Mazda subsequently got out of his vehicle after it became disabled in the No. 1 lane. Tapia also got out of his Nissan and was walking in the media towards the Mazda’s driver when an oncoming Toyota swerved to avoid the disabled car and struck the two pedestrians.
Tapia died of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported to Kern Medical Center with a major injury to his right leg.
Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
