In this case, the suspects are accused of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. DUI is a serious crime throughout the state and has corresponding criminal penalties, and the kinds of the charges to be filed depend on factors including the prior convictions, if there are any, of the alleged DUI driver, the severity of the offense, the level of intoxication and the injuries caused to another individual.
Aside from DUI, the suspects also fled the scene following the car crash. These two factors leave the victim with the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault parties, seeking compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages, property damage and other losses.
