Motorcyclist Killed on 215 Freeway in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (April 20, 2026) – Oscar Navarro, 35, of Phelan, died in a motorcycle crash on the Riverside (215) Freeway early Monday south of University Avenue in Riverside County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported there was a crash around 1:24 a.m. on April 20th, 2026.
The initial collision involved the drivers of a white semi truck and a blue Nissan Frontier pickup truck in the southbound lanes of the freeway. Oscar Navarro, who was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson, was not involved in that collision. However, a third motorist in a 2018 Mercedes-Benz SUV, was traveling just ahead of the motorcyclist in the fast lane. The Mercedes driver saw the wreckage and debris scattered across the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of the freeway and swerved to the left, causing the oncoming motorcyclist in the HOV lane to crash into the concrete divider.
Paramedics responded and transported the injured man to Riverside Community Hospital, but he later died at 2:12 a.m., the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner reports. One person from the Nissan was hurt in the crash, but the Mercedes driver was unharmed. Also, the semi-truck driver reportedly fled the scene.
Meanwhile, traffic in the area backed up and all lanes were affected for several hours.
Witnesses are asked to contact the CHP Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
