Hit-and-Run Driver Oscar Suarez, 44, Turns Himself In After El Sereno Crash
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 25, 2020) – Authorities detained Oscar Suarez after a hit-and-run crash at Alhambra and Bullard avenues in El Sereno.
Police said the 44-year-old man fled the scene of the collision on Thursday evening. The accident occurred on October 22 at around 6:50 p.m.
At the same time, an elderly male pedestrian was crossing near the intersection of Alhambra and Bullard avenues. The car then struck the man and then knocked him onto the ground.
Paramedics responded to the scene and found victim on the ground as a result of the collision. They rushed him to a hospital with severe injuries.
Guillermo Cartagena, 75, Hit and Critically Injured by Car
Officers identified the elderly man as 75-year-old Guillermo Antonio Cartagena, of El Sereno. Cartagena ended up on life support and in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Suarez initially exited his vehicle following the collision. However, he went back inside the truck and sped westbound on Alhambra from Bullard.
The pickup, believed to be a 2000-2010 Toyota Tacoma, has power washing equipment in the back when the crash took place.
Authorities added that Suarez turned himself in on Saturday and they arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, as well as outstanding warrants. Officials set his bail at $28,340.
