Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in Otay Mesa Crash on Britannia Boulevard
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 6, 2023) – A bicycle rider was seriously injured after a crash on Britannia Boulevard near state Route 905 in Otay Mesa.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune and ABC 10 News, the accident took place on Tuesday morning. Officers reported the collision on June 6 at around 4 a.m.
The incident happened when a commercial dump truck hit a man riding a bicycle in the Otay Mesa neighborhood. The vehicle struck him for an unknown reason, on southbound Britannia Boulevard, near state Route 905.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion said the bicyclist ended up pinned underneath the dump truck as a result of the accident. Firefighters soon rescued him from under the truck.
The cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries due to the impact of the collision. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
The reports did not disclose the name of the wounded party and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, officers forced a stretch of Britannia Boulevard to shut down following the wreck.
The cause of the Otay mesa bicycle crash is still under investigation.
