Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Otay Mesa Hit-and-Run Crash at Airway and Sanyo
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 24, 2021) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash at Airway Road and Sanyo Avenue in Otay Mesa.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident took place on Monday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 6 p.m.
The incident happened on August 23 when a vehicle was going south on Sanyo Avenue, approaching Airway Road, in the Otay Mesa neighborhood.
San Diego police said the driver then failed to yield at a stop sign and broadsided a 44-year-old man riding a motorcycle. The two crashed in the intersection.
Driver Runs Stop Sign, Hits Motorcycle Rider
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They found the rider left left suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment of an open fracture to his left leg. Officials did not disclose his name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the motorcyclist and fled the area. They described the car as possibly a 2017 to 2020 red Kia Sportage.
The small SUV obtained damage on the front right after hitting the bike. Officers forced the intersection of Airway Road and Sanyo Avenue to shut down following the wreck.
