Security Guard, 81, Seriously Injured in at Cactus Court Freight Yard Crash
SAN DIEGO (October 11, 2019) – An elderly security guard was hit and seriously injured by a truck at a freight truck yard in Otay Mesa Thursday evening.
The accident took place on October 10 at around 11:15 p.m. in the 6900 block of Cactus Court, southwest of the intersection of Cactus and Siempre Viva roads.
The incident began when an 81-year-old man working as a security guard in the freight company yard was standing between two semi-trailers and inspecting door seals at the gate to the yard.
Security Guard Ran Over by Truck in Otay Mesa
According to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, at the same time the operator of a 2019 Volvo TR tractor with two semi-trailers attached pulled forward.
Police affirmed that the front wheel of the second semi-trailer then ran over the security guard’s legs for an unknown reason. The impact knocked the victim down.
Paramedics responded to the scene and found the man with a crushed lower right leg and an open fracture. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
His name and condition at this time were not disclosed. Meanwhile, police did not confirm why the 50-year-old man driving the second semi-trailer failed to see the security guard when the incident occurred.
