Bicycle Rider Critically Injured in Oxnard Crash on 5th Street Near Rose Avenue
OXNARD, CA (October 24, 2021) – A bicycle rider was critically injured after a crash on East 5th Street in Oxnard.
According to an article published by the KEYT News, the accident took place on Friday night. Officers reported the wreck on October 22 at around 8:30 p.m.
The incident began when a man was riding a bicycle westbound on East 5th Street, east of Rose Avenue, in Oxnard. At the same time, a 2017 BMW 330i was going west on Rose.
A tractor-trailer traveling east on 5th Street swerved into the westbound lanes for an unknown reason. Police said the BMW tried to avoid the truck and veered into the bike lane of the road.
Man Hit by Car
In the process, the car struck the bicyclist. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the rider down on the ground.
The victim sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
The report did not disclose the name of the wounded patient and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, police added that the 19-year-old Camarillo man driving the BMW ended up unharmed.
He stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the cyclist. Officers forced a stretch of 5th Street to shut down near Rose Avenue following the collision.
