Pablo Barba and Catalina Barba Killed, Valentin Barba and 2 Boys Injured
MADERA (July 29, 2018) – Three were killed and three were seriously injured after an alleged wrong-way crash on Highway 99 early Sunday morning, according to The Modesto Bee.
The accident involving two vehicles occurred just before 3 a.m. near Avenue 11.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 24-year-old Samantha Pena was allegedly driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla north in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 when the Fresno woman struck head-on a 2006 Ford Explorer in the No. 2 lane.
The Ford ultimately rolled over while the Toyota ended up blocking the No. 1 lane.
Suspected Wrong-Way Driver, Samantha Pena, Dead
The driver of the Explorer, 67-year-old Pablo Barba, and the rear middle passenger, 69-year-old Catalina Barba, died at the scene. Both were from Orange Cove.
Three other occupants of the overturned vehicle suffered major injuries upon impact. The victim, two boys ages 12 and 13, and 26-year-old Valentin Barba, were all rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the wrong-way motorist was also pronounced deceased at the crash site. The incident remains under investigation.
