1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Highway 99 Crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2018) —Pablo Villareal Garcia, 28, died and another suffered major injuries following a two-vehicle collision at the northbound Highway 99 off-ramp at Panama Lane.
The crash took place about midnight when a driver in a black coupe was driving eastbound on Panama Lane and began to enter the intersection at the northbound Highway 99 off-ramp. The vehicle struck a white sedan that was traveling northbound from the freeway exit and about to turn westbound.
The driver of the sedan died at the scene and a passenger was hospitalized with major injuries.
The driver who was in the coupe suffered minor injuries. Police questioned the driver about what happened and there is an investigation to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors. A passenger in the coupe’s vehicle was also injured and treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, but witnesses may contact Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
Bakersfield Crash Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. It’s unknown at this time what factors led to the crash. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
