Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Pacific Beach DUI Crash Near Grand Avenue and Jewell Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 17, 2021) – A pedestrian was seriously injured after a DUI crash near Grand Avenue and Jewell Street in Pacific Beach.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News, the accident took place late Friday night. Officers reported the collision shortly before midnight.
The incident happened on July 16 when a male pedestrian was walking an electric bicycle across a Pacific Beach street. The bike apparently ran out of power at the time.
San Diego police said a 2016 Hyundai going east then struck the 65-year-old man in the roadway. The driver hit him near the intersection with Jewell Street.

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They found the victim who sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital for treatment of a skull fracture, brain bleed and fractured pelvis. Officials did not disclose the name of the patient and his condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the Hyundai was under the influence of alcohol when he slammed into the victim. They arrested the 26-year-old man on suspicion of DUI.
Officers forced the area of Grand Avenue and Jewell Street to close following the DUI crash. The Pacific Beach pedestrian collision is still under investigation.
