PALM DESERT: DUI Driver Arrested Following Minor Crash on Highway 111

PALM DESERT, California (December 8, 2015) — Arlene Hoppe, 84, of Rancho Mirage was arrested Monday afternoon after police discovered she was driving under the influence of alcohol when she collided with another vehicle on Highway 111.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Hoppe was driving drunk behind the wheel of her silver Toyota Camry in an eastbound direction on Highway 111. She stopped at the intersection with Portola Avenue when the traffic light turned red, but  suddenly reversed the vehicle and struck a Hyundai Santa Fe which was behind her. The collision took place about 2:13 p.m.

Neither of the drivers suffered any serious injuries in the collision. Hoppe was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into Riverside County Jail in Indio.
