PALMDALE: William Speer, 64, Victim in Fatal Crash on Highway 14
PALMDALE, California (July 14, 2016) — William Speer, 64, of Santa Clarita, has been identified as the victim killed in a fatal car crash involving two vehicles Thursday morning on northbound State Route 14 Freeway at the West Avenue N off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place about 9:41 a.m. as Speer was stopped in traffic before being struck from behind by the driver of a 2003 Ford Econoline car van driven by Lanny E. Ludwick, 82.
Ludwick had been traveling over the speed limit before failing to recognize that traffic was stopped.
Speer was rushed from the scene to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he tragically did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Per the Antelope Valley Times, both Lanny Ludwick and his passenger, Mary Ludwick, were both injured and transported to hospitals.
Investigating officials do not believe that alcohol played a factor in the collision.
