PALO ALTO: Traffic Collision US-101 (Bayshore Freeway) Near San Antonio Road
Car Accident on Southbound US-101 Causes Major Delays
Palo Alto, CA (May 2, 2025) — A two-vehicle collision involving a white Toyota and a black Toyota Prius disrupted traffic on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the San Antonio Road north off ramp Friday afternoon, prompting an emergency response and significant lane closures.
The incident was first reported at approximately 12:55 p.m. on May 2nd, with early reports indicating that both vehicles sustained major damage. Emergency services, including medical responders and fire personnel, were dispatched immediately.
By 1:08 p.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) units confirmed that both express lanes and the No. 1 lane were blocked, prompting the activation of CMS (Changeable Message Signs) to alert drivers and a request for a SigAlert to manage the traffic impact. Tow trucks from National Towing and Ed’s Tow were dispatched to the scene to remove the heavily damaged vehicles.
One of the involved vehicles, a Toyota Corolla, reportedly suffered front-end damage, while the Prius sustained moderate damage. Affected lanes remained blocked for over 30 minutes, contributing to traffic congestion in the area. The SigAlert was lifted around 1:26 p.m., and all lanes were reopened shortly afterward.
At least one person was transported to Stanford Hospital for evaluation, although the extent of injuries remains unknown.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
