3 Killed, 18 Injured in Bus Accident on Interstate 15 Freeway
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2020) — Three people are dead and 18 were injured Saturday when a charter bus swerved off the side of the 15 Freeway during a downpour in Palo Mesa.
The bus overturned onto its roof and three people were ejected about 10:30 a.m., just south of Highway 76, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Firefighters extricated multiple trapped and injured people from the overturned bus that was down an embankment on the southbound side of the 15 Freeway.
There were three people who died at the scene of the collision. One of them remained was extricated by firefighters on scene.
Paramedics rushed five people to Inland Valley Hospital, five more to Palomar Medical Center, and eight others to Temecula Valley Hospital for various injuries. Meanwhile, the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was cooperating with police at the scene.
The bus was transporting both adults and children from the Los Angeles and was headed to San Ysidro, the CHP reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team.
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records state that the bus is registered to El Monte-based Executive Lines Inc. and is doing business as Lineas Ejecutivas.
