PANORAMA CITY, California (May 23, 2017) — A 15-year-old boy was struck down by a falling tree branch in the 8000 block of Ranchito Avenue, according to a report by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the scene of the injury accident about 7 p.m., near Boxwood Place, the LAFD said. The teenager suffered leg abrasions, but his injuries were not life threatening. Paramedics transported the boy to a hospital for further medical treatment.
Fallen Tree Accidents
It’s unclear what caused the tree branch to fall down in Panorama City, but there are many factors that could have led to this dangerous condition. The ownership of the tree was also not disclosed in the fire department’s report, but typically the owner of the tree is also the owner of the land where the truck is located. Responsibility for the boy’s injuries would most likely fall on the tree owner who is required to take steps to ensure the public’s safety by maintaining trees. The owner could be a resident, a government or a business owner.
Indeed, trees can cause serious injuries or even death when they are not routinely inspected or maintained. Some recent examples included an incident where a Los Angeles man was crushed after a palm tree fell on him; a woman was crushed to death in Costa Mesa when a large eucalyptus tree fell over onto her car; a person was killed and two were injured when a tree fell down in Yosemite National Park; and a falling eucalyptus tree struck and injured 15 people at a Marine depot in San Diego.
