The crash was reported about 8:43 p.m. near the Vines RV Resort
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 50-year-old Van Hugh Needham was driving a 2010 Honda Accord west when he pulled out from Wellsona Road onto the northbound lanes of Highway 101.
Needham, of Visalia, went into the path of a 2005 Chevy Colbalt driven by a 61-year-old Chualar resident Alejo Alegre who was traveling north on the highway at approximately 70 mph at the time.
The two vehicles then collided, killing Needham. He died at the scene.
CHP affirmed that Needham’s passenger, 55-year-old Visalia resident Sherry Champagne, was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
