Pickup Truck Crashes into Parked Freightliner Tractor Trailer Truck

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (July 22, 2026) — A driver suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after a pickup truck crashed into the back of a parked semi-trailer on Highway 99, severely injuring a passenger, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 3:49 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2026, on southbound Highway 99 just north of California Avenue.

CHP said the driver was traveling south in a white Dodge pickup towing a utility trailer when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle drifted onto the west shoulder. The Dodge then struck the rear of a parked white Freightliner tractor-trailer.

The pickup became lodged beneath the Freightliner’s trailer, trapping the front-seat passenger inside. Emergency crews extricated the passenger, who was transported to a hospital with severe injuries.

The Dodge driver was also taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being arrested on suspicion of felony DUI. CHP said alcohol was determined to be a factor in the crash. The driver was booked into the Kern County Jail.

No one inside the Freightliner was injured.

The crash prompted the closure of multiple southbound lanes and caused significant traffic delays.
