2 Killed in Head-on Crash on River Road in Newman
STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2022) – Patrick Gomez is one of two people who died in a head-on crash on River Road near Azevedo Road north of Newman.
The driver, who resided in either Newman or Modesto, was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
Patrick Gomez, 38, was driving a 2005 Nissan Maxima southbound on River Road when a driver in a northbound 2022 Ram 1500 pickup truck allegedly pulled into the path of the Nissan in an attempt to pass a semi truck.
The two vehicles crashed head-on and then both vehicles collided with the side of the semi-truck and the pickup caught on fire, according to The Modesto Bee and CBS Sacramento.

The deadly crash happened about 5:22 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21st.
Both the driver in the Nissan and the 52-year-old Newman woman driving the Ram died. Police say Gomez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
However, the big rig truck driver was unharmed following the collision.
Authorities investigating the crash closed down a portion of River Road for hours between Villa Manucha and Azevedo roads.
