1 Killed, 1 Injured in Patterson Big Rig Crash on Northbound Interstate 5
PATTERSON, CA (June 8, 2021) – A big rig crash killed one person and injured another on the Interstate 5 near Patterson.
According to an article published by The Modesto Bee, the tragic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 12:30 p.m.
The incident happened when the 2016 big rig was traveling in the slow lane of the northbound Interstate 5 near Patterson. The truck was carrying a flatbed trailer with frames and wheels for other trailers.
For an unknown reason, the tractor-trailer swerved to the right and crossed over the Sperry Avenue on-ramp. The California Highway Patrol said the big rig then overturned.
Semi-Truck Overturns Near Sperry Avenue
The driver of the truck ended up ejected from the vehicle as a result of the collision. CHP found the tractor-trailer which came to a stop east of the Interstate 5.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced the 50-year-old Detroit man dead at the scene. His passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel took the patient to a nearby hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the Sperry Avenue on-ramp to shut down for at least two hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Patterson crash is still under investigation.
