Pedestrian Killed in Modesto Hit-and-Run Crash at 8th and L Streets
MODESTO, CA (September 4, 2020) – Authorities detained two people in connection to a deadly hit-and-run collision at 8th and L Streets on Tuesday.
Police said 67-year-old Paul Muratore and 61-year-old Lori Jardine were riding the suspect car that fatally hit a man on September 1.
According to reports by CBS Sacramento and Central Valley TV, the incident began when a male pedestrian was crossing the intersection of 8th and L streets.
A vehicle going westbound on the inside lane yielded to the pedestrian. However, the Chevy S-10 truck driven by Muratore and traveling behind the first car then swerved around.
Officials determined that the pickup drove back into the inside lane and then struck the victim in an unmarked crosswalk. The accident occurred at around 8:45 p.m.
The impact caused the 42-year-old man to be thrown toward the curb on L Street. Paramedics responded to the scene and found him left lying in the roadway following the crash.

Officers found the truck parked in a residence near the Enslen area. The Chevy did not have a hood or bumper and its windshield has been replaced.
Authorities soon arrested both Muratore and Jardine. They charged the man with vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run and the woman with aiding and abetting following the commission of a felony.
Police are reportedly looking for the driver of a 2006-2010 silver Dodge Charge who witnessed the collision and followed the Chevy as it fled the scene.
