Paul Palmer Killed, 2 Critically Injured in Crash on Camino Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2019) — A 76-year-old San Diego man identified as Paul Edward Palmer died in a head-on crash late Monday afternoon in Del Mar.
Two men in their late 20s suffered major injuries in the 4 p.m. collision on Camino Del Mar near Del Mar Heights Road, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
Palmer was driving a Honda CRV northbound on Camino Del Mar when he allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic on the southbound side. The CRV first sideswiped a Toyota RAV4, before it went on to crash head-on into a Toyota Previa van occupied by the two young men.
Palmer suffered major injuries and died at the scene. His identity was released by the coroner.
The two men in the Toyota van were its 28-year-old driver and a 27-year-old passenger. They both suffered major injuries and were taken by ambulances to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Meanwhile, the 39-year-old woman driving the RAV4 was reportedly not hurt.
Police subsequently closed down Camino Del Mar between Del Mar Heights Road and Carmel Valley Road to investigate the crash.
Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
