2 Dead, 2 Drives Suspected of DUI in Multi-Vehicle Crash
DIAMOND BAR, California (Oct. 30, 2017) — Paula Queiroz-Lopes, 24, of Diamond Bar and Eduardo Goncalves-Lins, 28, of Costa Mesa were killed in a suspected DUI collision on the southbound 57 Orange Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner.
Queiroz-Lopes was a passenger in a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by Goncalves-Lins. The vehicle crashed into the back of a parked tow truck on the shoulder of the freeway early Sunday morning at 3 a.m.
The car came to rest in the No. 3 lane, but was struck by a 2007 Toyota Tacoma and both occupants of the Corolla were ejected into the roadway where they died.
Vincent Delavega, 28, of Santa Ana was driving the Tacoma which also struck an unattended 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck. William Blackburn, 35, of Covina, who owned the Dodge, had pulled over to help the victims of the first crash. The Tacoma overturned and landed on its side.
Police arriving at the scene suspected both Delavega and Goncalves-Lins were driving under the influence of alcohol.
Delavega suffered fractured ribs and bruises to his chest and was taken to a hospital for treatment, but subsequently arrested on DUI charges.
Witnesses may contact the CHP’s Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
