Pedestrian Doohyuk Chang Killed on I-5 Transition Ramp in San Diego

Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Multiple Vehicles in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (June 27, 2025) — Doohyuk Chang, 29, was identified the man killed in a tragic pedestrian accident last Friday morning on a San Diego freeway transition ramp.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:54 a.m. on June 20, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 29-year-old man died after being struck by multiple vehicles on the northbound Interstate 5 transition ramp, just south of Hawthorn Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Doohyuk Chang was on foot when he was struck by several vehicles in quick succession. Emergency services responded to 911 calls, but paramedics pronounced the young man dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries, particularly to the neck and chest. No contributing medical conditions were noted, and the manner of death was ruled an accident.
The circumstances leading up to why Chang was on the transition ramp remain under investigation by CHP. No further details have been released at this time.
