Man Struck and Killed by Driver in Pickup Truck at Bakersfield Intersection

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (June 8, 2026) — A driver in a pickup truck struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday afternoon in Bakersfield at California Avenue and Union Avenue, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Bakersfield police responded around 1:20 p.m. on June 7th to the intersection after a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The injured man was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died around 4:15 p.m. the same day.

Traffic accident investigators determined that a woman was driving eastbound on California Avenue in a gray Chevrolet pickup. She reportedly turned left towards northbound Union Avenue and went off the roadway, where she hit a pedestrian and a fence. The driver stopped her truck and cooperated with police officers.
