San Jose Man, 54, Identified as Victim of Pedestrian Accident
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2025) — Hector Cruz, 54, of San Jose, died Sunday in a pedestrian accident at Lincoln Avenue involving a suspected DUI driver.
The traffic collision occurred around 10:49 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue and Lonus Street, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Authorities reported a man driving a 2014 white Acura SUV was traveling northbound in the right lane of Lincoln Avenue, just south of Lonus Street.
Meanwhile, Hector Cruz was crossing the street from west to east and was struck by the Acura.
Paramedics transported the pedestrian to a hospital with major injuries, but he later died.
Police investigating the collision determined the driver was likely intoxicated. The motorist was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver also faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter.
“This is the second pedestrian death in San Jose for 2025,” said Attorney James Johnson. “There is no excuse for drunk driving these days. My condolences extend to the family of Hector Cruz as they cope with his sudden loss.”
