Fatal Pedestrian Crash Involving Truck
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (August 9, 2023) — A driver who stopped on the side of Highway 101 was hit by another truck in a fatal pedestrian accident near San Martin Avenue in San Martin, Santa Clara County.
The deadly collision occurred on the southbound Highway 101 around 12:33 a.m. on August 9th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A driver in a utility truck reportedly pulled over on the shoulder of the freeway. He exited his truck and was standing nearby it when an oncoming truck struck him just north of San Martin Avenue.
Paramedics responded and transported the injured pedestrian to a hospital for treatment of major injuries including an open leg wound. However, the CHP later updated the report to a fatality when the pedestrian died from their injuries.
The driver who hit the victim stopped and is cooperating with authorities.
Meanwhile, investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the collision.
