We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. We offer our sincerest thoughts and prayers to the friends and family members of the deceased during such a difficult time.
A report by Kern Golden Empire indicated that approximately 26 pedestrians were killed alone this year. This unofficial tally is already close to the 28 pedestrian deaths that were recorded by the same news agency for the year of 2016. As the fatality rate continues to incline, the safety of the pedestrians on the road becomes evidently at risk, taking into consideration that we are just halfway through 2017.
It is necessary that motorists practice certain precautionary measures and follow traffic regulations while using the roadway. However, factors such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding and distracted driving are acted by negligent drivers, and so result in tragic accidents.
