Fatal Hit-and-run Crash at Santa Ana Bus Stop
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2022) — A driver who struck and killed a man at a Santa Ana bus stop on South Fairview Street Sunday was later arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges.
The victim was waiting at a Santa Ana bus stop about 5 p.m. on Sept. 18th near 1500 South Fairview Street.
Some witnesses in the area called 911 to report the hit-and-run crash and paramedics responded and took the man to a hospital. Sadly, the man later died at the hospital, a Santa Ana Police Department press release said.
Juan Venicio Gallardo, 65, of Anaheim, was traveling north on Fairview Street when for unknown reasons his car veered off the roadway and struck the man near the bus top. The motorist fled the scene, but eyewitnesses helped police locate him in a nearby parking lot.
Authorities arrested the suspect on felony DUI and felony hit-and-run charges. He is being held at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange on $100,000 bail. His occupation is listed as a manual laborer. Also, he is scheduled to appear in Central Jail Court today, according to Orange County officials.
Meanwhile, the coroner did not release the identity of the man who died.
