Hit-and-run Suspect Arrested for Pedestrian Fatality Crash

VAN NUYS, Calif. (May 5, 2026) — A 40-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while walking in a marked crosswalk at Sepulveda Boulevard and Sherman Way in Van Nuys, and the suspected driver has since been taken into custody, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 10:07 p.m. Monday, May 4th, at the Van Nuys intersection, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Witnesses reported that a white four-door BMW was traveling southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it hit the man as he crossed the street.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

Police said the driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid, prompting a hit-and-run investigation. Authorities later located and arrested the suspect, according to an officer with the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division. The identity of the driver and potential charges were not immediately released.
