The accident was reported on May 26th at approximately 9:05 p.m., as a male subject was seen walking in the middle of the roadway on northbound SR111, just north of East Cole Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially categorized the situation as a major injury traffic collision but later upgraded it to a fatality.

Emergency responders, including Calexico police and an airship unit, were dispatched to the scene. Units arrived at the location shortly after 9:11 p.m., where they discovered a vehicle positioned on the right shoulder nearby, but the specifics of its involvement remain unclear.
