Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Car Accident on Main Avenue in Fallbrook

Fatal Pedestrian Accident in the Stepping Stone Parking Lot

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif., (July 23, 2026) — A 53-year-old man, who reportedly had autism, was struck and killed in Fallbrook on Thursday morning in a parking lot at Stepping Stone, a special needs facility for adults at 842 South Main Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision took place on July 23rd at approximately 8:59 a.m. A 23-year-old employee at the day care facility was entering the parking lot in a white Honda Odyssey. The employee didn’t see the man on the ground and reportedly ran over him.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and arm and was taken to a hospital. Despite being awake and breathing following the incident, the situation was later updated by authorities to a fatality.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at 9:08 a.m., arriving shortly thereafter. Initial classifications of the accident as involving minor injuries were later revised to reflect the severity of the situation as a fatality, as noted in the CHP log at 11:55 a.m.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released at this time. The tragic nature of this incident draws a somber reflection on the vulnerabilities of pedestrians, especially those with disabilities.

As of now, the Oceanside Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities are seeking witnesses and any additional information that may aid in understanding the events leading to this unfortunate outcome.
