Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Joshua Tree on 29 Palms Highway

Pedestrian Killed in Collision on State Route 62, Laferney Avenue
MORONGO BASIN, Calif., (October 6, 2026) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning near the CHP Morongo Basin Area station on 29 Palms Highway (State Route 62) at Laferney Avenue.
The deadly collision was reported on Oct. 6th at approximately 4:32 a.m. in the eastbound lanes just west of Laferney Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a male pedestrian was initially seen standing in the westbound lanes before moving into the center divide, making it difficult for drivers to see him clearly. Shortly thereafter, he was struck by a vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene by 4:39 a.m., and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office was notified to dispatch the coroner shortly before 5:00 a.m. The male pedestrian was found unconscious on the right-hand side of the road and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of the next of kin. The vehicle involved, the make and model of which have not been disclosed, reportedly remained at the scene.
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal collision. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information to come forward.
