Pedestrian Killed, Two Injured in Crash with Stolen Amazon Truck; Suspect Arrested

 Pedestrians Hit by Stolen Amazon Truck on Woodlawn Ave in South LA LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2022) — A driver in a stolen Amazon delivery truck struck three pedestrians at Main Street and 47th Place in South Los Angeles.

An unidentified man in his 50s died at the scene and the other two suffered minor injuries in the pedestrian accident at the South LA intersection.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

An Amazon driver reportedly stopped to deliver a package in the 4100 block of Woodlawn Avenue. Cristian Ramos Sanchez, 37, of Los Angeles, reportedly stole the truck and headed southbound on Main Street As he drove past 47th Place, he crashed into a parked vehicle and subsequently hit other parked vehicles in an “accordion-style” crash, police said. Next, the Amazon truck went up onto the sidewalk and hit three male pedestrians before it came to a stop when it hit a building.

The Amazon driver called 911 to report the stolen truck. Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene on foot, but some good Samaritans followed him and also called 911. Police soon caught up with the suspect near 51st Street and Broadway.

Police arrested Sanchez on suspicion of felony hit and run and other charges. His bail is set at $85,000, according to the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Sanchez was preliminary scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 22 at the Clara Foltz Criminal Justice Center, police said.
